Cusat inks pact for technology transfer

The Department of Physics at the Cochin University of Science and Technology has signed an agreement for transferring the know-how to develop photopolymer film and its coating process to Light Logics Holography and Optics.

A release issued here on Friday said that the technology would be transferred during the first week of February. Photopolymers are photoactive materials having wide applications in optical data storage, three dimensional imaging and optical wave guides.

A research group at the university was able to develop a photopolymer system that could be used to record holographic data.

Compared with the other holographic materials, these systems had the advantage of not requiring post-production processing like chemical or thermal treatment, the release said.

This would help in producing cost-effective holographic data storage systems. The research outcome was a joint venture of C. Sudha Kartha of Department of Physics, Rani Joseph of Department of Polymer Science and Rubber Technology, K. Sreekumar of Department of Applied Chemistry and research students Beena Mary John and M. Ushamani.
